"The city has been a ‘greater partner’ in getting the housing project designed, and their cooperation is one of the reasons the company is focusing its building on the state.”
– HARRY ANGEVINE, MARATHON CEO
PROJECT: The Flynn
LOCATION: Providence, RI
YEAR: 2024
On April 16, 2024, the Providence City Plan Commission approved Marathon's proposal for The Flynn, formerly The Copley Centre 1 project—a six-story, L-shaped apartment, mixed-use building with 178 income-restricted units and an additional two-story building that will most likely become a charter school.
The six-story building will be primarily residential, with most of the units (125) being two—and three-bedrooms,
"Something that Marathon CEO Harry Angevine said is needed and is increasingly rare in new construction in Rhode Island. "We're appealing to families," Angevine said. City Plan Commissioner Noel Sanchez said he was "happy" to see two- and three-bedroom units, since "you hardly get to see them.
In addition, Marathon proposed a 10,000-square-foot daycare and early childhood education program on the first floor.
The apartments will be available to residents who make 30% to 80% of the area's median income.
The proposed site is a vacant lot at 220 Blackstone St., bordered by Gay St. with abutting parking lots.
